The most common source of pain after root canal treatment is inflammation of the tissues that surround the tooth’s root they may be irritated by the files used in the treatment. It usually takes some time for that swelling to reduce and the tissue to be normal again after the root canal treatment is completed, so usually the pain subsides in a week or so. If still pain persists than you need to visit dental office.

The RCT treated tooth can lasts for years with proper care. It also depends on how quickly and effectively the damaged tooth was repaired. It is also important for the RCT treated tooth to be restored with permanent filling or crown as suggested by the dentists to lasts longer.

3. What happens if crown is not placed after root canal treatment?

Root canal treatment saves teeth fro decay but they can also weaken them. The removal of infected pulp, enamel, dentin structures may weaken the tooth structure .they require fitted crowns because of high risk of fracture.

5. How long will it to for crown placement after RCT?

Getting a dental crown requires at least 2 visits to dentist’s office. Impressions of the tooth will be made and sent out to the laboratory that will be making your permanent crown. On the second visit the crown is fitted to the tooth, and following visits may be needed if adjustments to the crown are needed.

Proper oral hygiene like brushing twice daily and flossing and avoiding biting nut shells etc, do not open packages with the teeth and visiting the dentist regularly for checkups and cleaning is necessary.

The crack of the tooth beneath the crown may result in pain and needs further evaluation the dentist may take a radiograph and determine whether there is crack in the tooth, if it is deemed there is a crack than the tooth need to be extracted.

9. Can I go to work after Root canal appointment?

The dentist usually gives anesthesia which numbs the area surrounding teeth which may be there for an hour or two after appointment except that won’t be any problem. So going back to work is a personal choice but again not normally a problem.

10. Can I eat or drink after the RCT procedure?

Yes you may eat or drink after the procedure but you should avoid hard foods until you are no longer numb to prevent biting your tongue or cheek. The treated teeth may be sore to bite for a few days so you may want to avoid chewing on it.
